WHAT ARE MY PRIORITIES IF ELECTED?
- Restore Accountability and Transparency
Parents, staff, and residents deserve a Board of Trustees that is open, accessible, and accountable to the community it serves. I believe important decisions should be communicated clearly, with meaningful opportunities for families and community members to understand what is being considered and why.
As trustees, we have a responsibility to listen to the concerns of the people we represent, ask difficult questions, and ensure that decisions are made in the best interests of students. I want to see a Board that welcomes community input—not only when it is convenient, but throughout the decision-making process. Public education is funded by the community, and the community deserves transparency about how those resources are being used.
I also believe accountability means being willing to acknowledge when something is not working, listen to different perspectives, and make changes when necessary. My goal is to help build greater trust between the Board, families, staff, and the community.
- Strengthen Partnerships Between Schools, Parents, and the Community
Our schools are strongest when parents, educators, support staff, students, and the broader community are working together toward a common goal. Families should feel that their voices are valued and that they are partners in their child’s education, not simply recipients of decisions made elsewhere.
I want to help strengthen communication and collaboration between schools and the families they serve. This means creating meaningful opportunities for parents and community members to provide input, ensuring concerns are heard respectfully, and building stronger relationships between the Board and the communities it represents.
We may not always agree, but respectful dialogue and collaboration are essential. When we work together, we are better positioned to identify challenges, find practical solutions, and create positive outcomes for students.
- Support Teachers, Support Staff, and Classroom Learning
Teachers and support staff are at the heart of our education system. They work with students every day and understand the realities and challenges within our classrooms better than anyone sitting around a board table.
They deserve the resources, tools, and support necessary to do their jobs effectively. I want to ensure that decisions made at the Board level recognize the realities faced by educators and support staff and keep student learning at the centre of those decisions.
Supporting classroom learning also means recognizing that students have different needs and that schools need the capacity to respond to those needs. We need to listen to the professionals working directly with students and look for ways to support them, rather than continually asking them to do more with less.
- Focus on Core Educational Priorities and Responsible Spending
School districts have finite resources, and every dollar needs to be spent thoughtfully and responsibly. As a trustee, I would take seriously the responsibility of overseeing public funds and ensuring that spending decisions are aligned with the district’s most important priorities.
Before making reductions, changing programs, or reallocating resources, we need to carefully consider the potential impact on classrooms, students, teachers, and support staff. Financial decisions should be based on clear information, long-term planning, and a careful assessment of what will have the greatest benefit for students.
Responsible spending does not simply mean spending less. It means making thoughtful choices, asking whether resources are being used effectively, and ensuring that our priorities are reflected in our budget.
- A Student-Centred Approach
Ultimately, these priorities all come back to one central question: Is this decision helping us provide the best possible education and support for students?
As a parent and community member, I want to bring a practical, thoughtful, and collaborative voice to the Board. I am not running because I believe I have all the answers. I am running because I believe our community deserves trustees who are willing to listen, ask questions, seek better solutions, and be accountable for the decisions they make.
Our students, families, educators, and community deserve a school district they can have confidence in. I want to help build that trust and work toward a stronger, more transparent, and more student-focused future for SD73.
